Description
The Dagomys troughs, or simply the troughs, are one of the most famous and popular natural attractions of the city of Sochi. They are located in a picturesque gorge on the territory of the Dagomys Canyon and are a complex of reservoirs and waterfalls on the Western Dagomys River. These geological formations attract the attention of tourists from all over the world due to their beauty and uniqueness.
Natural beauty and diversity
The troughs are depressions in the rocks that resemble large pools or baths. The length of some of them reaches several meters, and the depth can exceed half a meter. They were formed as a result of destructive currents in layers of sedimentary rocks. Water, falling from the ledges, spills from one pool to another, creating a natural cascade of mini-waterfalls.
Tourist attractiveness
The Dagomys troughs are surrounded by dense forests and high mountains, which makes this place a real paradise for lovers of active recreation and extreme sports. Here you can jump into the water from high cliffs, enjoy the crystal clear water and unique colorful formations surrounding the troughs. Around you can find many species of plants and animals, many of which are endemic and can only be found here. Waterfalls, mountain streams and lakes add to the beauty of this place.
How to get there
Despite its popularity among tourists, the Dagomys troughs remain relatively little known and do not experience peak overflow, which makes them an ideal place for privacy with nature. Here you can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscapes and recharge your batteries.
The Dagomys troughs are located about nine kilometers from Dagomys, north of the village of Altmets in the Lazarevsky district of Sochi. They can be reached by public transport, minibuses or a private car. By car, follow the A147 road, then turn onto Armavirskaya Street and drive to the village of Altmets.
Recommendations for tourists
Caution should be taken when descending to the troughs, as the rocks are covered with moss and can be slippery. The sandstones and limestones at the bottom have sharp edges, so you need to be careful. The water in the rivers is very cold even in the summer heat, which is especially refreshing on hot days. There are many tourists here in the summer months, especially in July and August, so it is better to plan a visit at another time of year for a more relaxing holiday.
