Description

Riviera Park is one of the oldest and most famous resort parks in the Central District of Sochi. It was founded in 1898 by Vasily Alekseevich Khludov, a descendant of a merchant dynasty, and has since become one of the city's main attractions. The park is located on an area of ​​14.27 hectares and includes a unique dendrological collection with more than 240 plant species, of which 50 species are of particular value. Most of the plants are evergreen, many of them bloom in winter, which makes the park attractive at any time of year.

History

  • Foundation: The park was founded in 1898 by Vasily Khludov, who began developing his lands in the Sochi District in 1882, engaging in agriculture and viticulture.
  • Expansion: In 1883, Khludov expanded his holdings by purchasing the Razdolnoye estate, after which he began actively developing the territory, including laying roads and planting vineyards.
  • Design: In 1885, the park was laid out and the forest was cleared. The park was designed by agronomist Reinhold Garbe with the participation of the head gardener of the Moscow Botanical Garden, Professor Gustav Wobst.
  • City Park: In 1901, Khludov sold his estate to the state, and in 1902 the park received the status of a city park. It became a popular recreation area for residents and visitors of Sochi.
  • Soviet Period: The park was significantly damaged during the First World War and the Civil War. In 1920, the park was transferred to the Sochi City Resort Administration and renamed Kurupra Park. In 1937, the park received its current name - "Riviera".
  • Restoration: After the Great Patriotic War, the park was restored and expanded. In 1950, a large-scale reconstruction began, during which the park took on its modern appearance.

Sights and objects

  • V.A. Khludov's dacha: Built in 1896 in the Art Nouveau style with elements of ancient Russian tower architecture. In 2012, the dacha was restored after destruction.
  • Monuments and sculptures: The park contains busts and monuments to various outstanding personalities, including the founder of the park V.A. Khludov, as well as numerous artistic sculptures.
  • Writers' Alley: Includes busts of Russian and Soviet literary classics, created in the late 1950s.
  • Artificial pond "Black Sea": Built in 1963, decorated with a sculpture composition "Heron".
  • Green Theater: Summer open-air concert hall, built in 1959.

Entertainment and events

  • Attractions: The park has many attractions for all ages, including the free-fall tower "Corsair", the extreme spinning wheel "Galaxy", and a roller coaster.
  • Museums and oceanariums: The park includes the Robot Museum and the Genium Museum, as well as a dolphinarium, a zoo and a penguinarium.
  • Cultural events: The park hosts concerts, performances, knight tournaments and other entertainment events.

Facilities and accessibility

  • Opening hours: The park is open daily from 06:00 to 23:00. The oceanarium, dolphinarium and other museums are open from 10:00 to 19:00–20:00.
  • Transportation: The park can be reached by bus from various parts of Sochi, including Adler and resort villages. There is a paid parking lot near the northern entrance.
  • Plants: The park is famous for its variety of exotic plants, including rose plantations and rare species of sakura.

Riviera Park is not only a historical heritage site, but also a modern entertainment complex that attracts thousands of tourists with its beauty and opportunities for active and cultural recreation.
