Description
The Central Embankment of Sochi is a long pedestrian street along the Black Sea coast, located along Primorskaya Street. It is considered the main street of the city and is known as the Promenade, after a similar embankment in Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera. The total length of the embankment is 2 km, from the Marine Station to Pushkin Avenue. Not far from the Marine Station, there are sculptures of the heroes of the Soviet comedy "The Diamond Arm", in which the popular scene of buying lottery tickets was filmed.
Entertainment and infrastructure
The embankment paved with tiles is home to many entertainment options: shops, souvenir shops, shopping arcades, playgrounds, concert halls, restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs. The Central Embankment attracts many tourists due to its color, rose gardens, attractions, palm trees and greenery. There are also conditions for the movement of people with disabilities.
Upper and lower levels
The embankment has two tiers:
- Upper level: surrounded by Primorsky Park and offers picturesque views of Sochi and the lower tier of the embankment.
- Lower level: Promenade and beaches.
Attractions
One of the significant attractions of the embankment is the Winter Theater, which annually hosts more than 500 thousand spectators. The theater does not have a permanent troupe and hosts various creative groups.
The final point of the embankment is Frunze Park - a cozy square with alleys, the building of the Summer Theater and the Rotunda on the seashore. After the park, Primorskaya Embankment turns into Chernomorskaya Street, which leads to the lower part of the Arboretum.
Mayak Water Park
On the territory of the embankment, right on the shore of the Black Sea, is the Mayak Water Park, which began its work in July 2000. The water park covers an area of almost 22,000 sq.m., offers comfortable sun loungers, changing cabins, sun umbrellas, showers with hot and cold water.
Expansion project
In 2021, work began on a project to expand the main coastal pedestrian zone of the resort. According to the plan, the Central Embankment will be expanded to 300 m towards the sea.
Entertainment and play areas
In the summer season, the embankment offers traditional resort entertainment: shooting galleries, Oracle slot machines, fish spa, karaoke. Children can spend time on playgrounds in the northern part of the promenade or in the amusement park near the Primorsky Beach. There are also several sports grounds on the Southern Pier square.
