Description
Ant Islands are a small archipelago within the city of Togliatti, formed after the flooding of coastal areas as a result of the construction of the Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station. This stretch of the Volga is known for its beautiful sandy beach and photogenic scenery, which has led to it being sometimes called the "Tolyatti Maldives".
The name "ant" islands probably came from the large number of ants that once lived in this area. Despite their presence, people always found a compromise and enjoyed their time on the beach. The sand on the islands is very soft and pleasant to walk barefoot, especially in the summer months when it heats up to high temperatures.
However, due to fluctuations in the water level in the Volga and constant changes in the bottom topography, dangerous currents and holes may appear on the islands, which makes swimming here officially prohibited. However, during the high season, many people ignore this ban and swim, creating the atmosphere of a real sea beach right in the heart of the city.
