Description
Mount Mogutovaya is a picturesque peak of the Zhiguli Mountains, 265 meters high. It is located on the banks of the Volga and is the only isolated peak in this massif.
The northern slope of the mountain ends towards the Volga, and the remaining sides of the mountain are surrounded by the city of Zhigulevsk. On the eastern slope, known as Stone Mountain, there is a sculpture of a mountain goat created by an unknown artist in the 90s of the 20th century. From this part of the mountain there is a beautiful view of the Volga region.
Mount Mogutovaya is located in a protected area and is part of the reserve. From its top you can see breathtaking views of the surrounding area, including the Morkvashka River flowing into the Volga.
The name of the mountain probably comes from the word "mighty" or "power". There is also a version about its anthroponymic origin.
The Mogut Mountain massif itself is a dome-shaped erosional remnant, separated from the main massif by two paleovalleys. The mountain's topography is steep, with some rocky ridges on the northern slope.
The Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station, built at the western end of the mountain, was designed to be located within the ancient alluvial strata to ensure increased seismic stability and independence from karst formations.
