Molodetsky Kurgan is an impressive mountain in the western part of the Zhiguli Mountains, located at the confluence of the Usa and Volga rivers, opposite the city of Togliatti. The height of this mountain is 242.8 meters above sea level. Being one of the most famous peaks of the Zhiguli, Molodetsky Kurgan attracts the attention of both tourists and scientists.
The area around Molodetsky Kurgan is rich in history and legends. Folk legends of this area often mention a connection with the activities of the Volga freemen and atamans. Legends claim that Stepan Razin himself buried a treasure of two buckets of gold on this mountain, protected by a charmed crowbar.
Molodetsky Kurgan amazes with its unique appearance and richness of flora and fauna. Many unique plants grow on its slopes, including rare and relict species. Here you can meet such animals as the white-tailed eagle, steppe dybun, Apollo and swallowtail.
Kurgan attracts tourists not only for its natural beauty, but also for the many entertainments and events held here every year. In the spring, the regional mountaineering championship is held on Molodetsky Kurgan, as well as a festival of bards, tourists and athletes.
From May 2008 to June 2009, Molodetsky Kurgan was closed to the public for the purpose of land reclamation and restoration of the natural landscape. However, it is now open to tourists and visitors, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the majestic views and richness of nature.
