Description
The Radostnoye deposit (also known as Raduzhnoe or Radoshnoye) was discovered in 1817. The mined ferruginous quartzites were supplied to the Ufaleysky and Kyshtym metallurgical plants.
The deposit is part of the Taratash group of deposits and is located on the southern slope of Mount Radoshnaya (also known as Mount Radostnaya, according to the toponymic expedition of 1988).
A powerful vertical vein of magnetic iron ore with a small admixture of titanium was mined here.
Already in Soviet times, the deposit began to be mined in the Radostny quarry, and the mined ore was sent to Magnitogorsk. To divert the Malaya Arsha River, a canal was dug, and the river itself upstream was dammed for technological purposes.
Next to the quarry there was a loading area and railway tracks to Magnitka. On the industrial site between the quarry and the pond there was a power plant, a fuel and lubricants warehouse and other production facilities.
However, the estimated reserves were not confirmed, and in the 1990s the deposit was depleted and the quarry filled with water.
The Radostny quarry is located near the village of Magnitka and 5 km from the village of Aleksandrovka. This quarry, although not currently active, is impressive in size. A beautiful lake formed at its bottom, surrounded by mountains and forests. Tourists visiting the area can enjoy the unique landscape and discover samples of various minerals.
In 2004, the quarry attracted public attention in connection with the proposal to create a test site for the disposal of rocket engine charges on its territory. However, this proposal has raised serious concerns about the negative impact on the environment, in particular on the Taganay nature reserve. As a result, experts emphasized that the creation of a landfill could negatively affect the hydrogeology of the region, including underground sources, which led to the abandonment of this project.
