Description
Mount Itsyl, located in the Southern Urals in the Chelyabinsk region, is the southern tip of the ridge of the same name, which is part of the Taganay mountain cluster. Located 26 kilometers northeast of Zlatoust, it is part of the Taganay National Park. Mount Itsil has a double-headed shape with a ridge-shaped plateau between the southern and northern ridges. The height of the northern peak is 1068 meters, and the southern one is 1049 meters above sea level.
On the slopes of the mountain there are numerous kurumniks and rock outcrops consisting of quartzites and crystalline schists. Minerals such as garnet and staurolite are also found here. The border between Europe and Asia passes through this mountain, making it an even more unique object.
On the eastern slope of the mountain there are relict spruce forests, known as “Itsil spruce forests,” which are valuable as a source of seeds for the forest fund. The top of the mountain is famous as one of the best viewing platforms in the Southern Urals, offering panoramic views of the Taganay ranges and lakes Argazi and Turgoyak.
