Description

The wooden church of the Archangel Michael the Archangel in the village of Krasno is one of the few surviving churches in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. Built in 1800 from oak, it stands on the left bank of the Pripyat River and is a kind of symbol of survival surrounded by radiation pollution.

The village of Krasno, once part of the Chernobyl region, was finally deregistered in 1999 due to a lack of residents after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. However, the Church of the Archangel Michael continues to stand, surviving all the difficulties of time.

Historical data indicates that before 1922 there were 18 operating Orthodox churches in the Chernobyl region. However, starting in 1927, persecution of the church began, as a result of which many churches were destroyed. This led to the loss of not only spiritual values, but also historical evidence of the ancient culture and art of the region.

The Church of the Archangel Michael is one of the few churches that survived during the persecution of the church and in the period after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. Despite the surrounding radiation pollution, the background radiation inside the temple remains normal, which arouses the interest of researchers.

Despite the fact that services in the temple stopped many years ago, its miraculous properties are preserved, and believers continue to turn to it with hope and prayers. Faith in the holiness and protective power of the Church of the Archangel Michael remains alive even in conditions when other aspects of life in the region are subject to destruction and oblivion.
