Description

Lazurny is an indoor swimming pool in the abandoned city of Pripyat, which has become one of the symbols of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. Located in the Exclusion Zone of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant on Sportivnaya Street, Lazurny was an important sports facility in the city.

Having suffered from the accident, the Lazurny pool still continued to function for quite a long time after the disaster. The liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident could relax here and take a break from hard work, being under the roof of the sports complex.

The Lazurny pool consisted of two parts: a part with a swimming pool and showers, as well as a gym with exercise equipment. In its heyday, it was a full-fledged sports center, including swimming lanes, diving boards, a gymnasium, a basketball court and even a football field.

However, over time, the pool began to fall into disrepair. The looters dismantled almost all the metal elements, and today even the wooden floors of the gym are being dismantled.

Despite its abandoned state, Lazurny remains an interesting attraction in Pripyat, attracting those interested in the history and consequences of the Chernobyl accident.
