Description

The recreation center "Izumrudnoe", also known as the pioneer camp, is located on the shore of the cooling pond of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, near the village of Lelev, among a beautiful pine grove. Before the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, this place was a popular holiday destination for military personnel, their families from the secret town of Chernobyl-2, nuclear power plant employees and other privileged individuals.

On the territory of the base there are about a hundred wooden summer houses, each of which is decorated with bright drawings depicting fairy-tale characters, and some even represent Disney cartoon characters. In addition, there is a shop, cinema, dance hall and boat station providing comfort and entertainment for holidaymakers.

After the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Izumrudnoye base was not immediately abandoned. For some time, liquidation squads were stationed here, whose respirators and other items can still be found in the area.

Today it is no longer possible to visit Izumrudnoe. The April 2020 fires destroyed all wooden buildings, leaving only a few brick buildings and the metal frames of swings. However, previously this place attracted tourists, as well as fans of the computer game S.T.A.L.K.E.R., who were interested in the prototype of the game location.

The recreation center "Izumrudnoye" leaves vivid memories of its positive atmosphere, cozy houses in a pine forest and a rich variety of entertainment.
