Description

Lenin Park, formerly known as Ushakovsky Park, is located in Ufa and is a cultural heritage site of regional significance. It is a landscape monument and an urban planning monument.

The park was founded in 1867-1872 on the initiative of Ufa Governor Sergei Petrovich Ushakov. Before that, the area was an overgrown clearing where livestock grazed. Ushakov transformed Cathedral Square into a park, which became a place of recreation for city residents. The park was named after its founder - Ushakovsky Park.

New trees were planted, swings, a carousel, gazebos, pavilions and a summer cinema "Mir" were installed in its development. The park was decorated with the first Ufa fountain with a sculpture of running children, and also attracted cyclists.

After the October Revolution of 1917, the park was renamed Freedom Park (Garden) and became a burial place for those killed during the Revolution and the Civil War. Later, a memorial was built here, and the national poet of Bashkortostan Mazhit Gafuri was buried here.

In 1934, the Dynamo football stadium was built in the park, and the Resurrection Cathedral was replaced by a dance floor. In 1951, the park was renamed in honor of Alexander Matrosov. The cast-iron gates were removed and new arched gates with bas-reliefs of Lenin and Stalin were installed.

In the late 1970s - early 1980s, the park changed its appearance again: the rides and the old fountain were removed, some of the trees were cut down. The park was renamed in honor of V. I. Lenin, which it bears to this day.
