Description
The First Cathedral Mosque of Ufa, also known as the Jalaluddin Rumi Mosque, is one of the key Muslim shrines of the Republic of Bashkortostan and the city of Ufa.
The mosque building, located at the address: Bashkortostan, Ufa, st. Tukaeva, 48, is a cultural heritage monument. The mosque was built in 1830 on the initiative of the Mufti of the Orenburg Mohammedan Spiritual Assembly Gabdessalyam Gabdrakhimov with the support of the merchant of the 2nd guild of Ufa Mukmin Khozyaseitov.
In the period from 1894 to 1911, the mosque was reconstructed according to the design of the architect-engineer I. Myalov.
Until the 1920s, the First Cathedral Mosque of Ufa occupied a leading position among the mosques in Russia.
On the territory of the mosque there operated the Gusmania madrasah and a Russian-Bashkir 2-year school.
From 1960 to 1992, the First Cathedral Mosque was the only operating mosque in the city of Ufa.
The mosque is also popularly known as the Tukaevskaya Mosque. This name is associated either with the famous Bashkir family of religious figures Tukaevs from Sterlibashevo, or with the name of the street on which the mosque is located.
The mosque served as an important center of religious and cultural life for the Muslim community. It provided educational programs and spiritual activities.
The mosque has special historical significance during the Great Patriotic War. Mufti Gabdrakhman Rasulev wrote his famous appeal to the Muslims of the Soviet Union within the walls of this mosque, calling on them to join the fight against fascism.
Today, on the territory of the mosque there are the graves of muftis and other religious figures, as well as prominent preachers of Islam. The mosque continues to be an important spiritual and cultural center for Muslims in Bashkortostan and throughout Russia.
