Description

The ship cemetery in Teriberka is one of the most unusual attractions in the Murmansk region. This place, located at the confluence of the Teriberka River into the Barents Sea, embodies the history of fishing and the industrial decline of the village.

Teriberka was once a major fishing center, where fishing and processing plants flourished. However, in the 1960s, the regional center was moved to Severomorsk, and fishing underwent significant changes, as a result of which local fishermen were left without work. This decline led to the emergence of a fishing boat graveyard near the barge, which was almost embedded in the shore.

Today, the cemetery consists of the remains of abandoned ships, which are perceived as the skeletons of sea monsters. Dilapidated buildings immersed in the coastal sand, as well as rusty metal structures create an atmosphere of mystery and loss. At low tide you can even see the underwater parts of ships overgrown with moss.

Despite the gloomy atmosphere and sad history, the ship cemetery attracts tourists with its unique beauty. This place became famous after the release of the film "Leviathan", which showed the landscapes of Teriberka, including the ship graveyard. In addition, it was included in the top three most photographed attractions in Russia.

A visit to the ship graveyard is an interesting and memorable experience. Tourists can walk along the shore, look at the remains of ships, and even climb inside the hulls, if they are brave enough and while observing safety measures. This place can be visited at any time of the year, each season gives it a special character. A walk through the ship graveyard usually takes about an hour, but can take longer depending on your interest in the details.

To visit the ship cemetery in Teriberka, you can get there from Murmansk by car or bus. The road takes about 150 kilometers. In addition, there are organized tours from Murmansk, which include a visit to this unique place.
