Description

Retinskoye is an abandoned village located on Cape Retinsky (Retteevsky) in Retinskaya Bay on the northwestern shore of the Kola Bay, opposite the city of Severomorsk. It is located 20 km from Murmansk and 8 km from the village of Belokamenka. The history of this place dates back to the end of the 16th century, when the first owner of the land was the Munomash Lapp Nikifor Rettey, after which the name of the surrounding area came about.

The village was founded in 1930 as a collective farm named after Gorky, specializing in sea fishing, in particular herring and cod fishing. Registered as a settlement in 1934, Retinskoye was part of the Polyarny District, and from March 1935 it was subordinated to the Belokamenskoye Village Council. By 1938, 100 people lived here, mostly engaged in fishing.

Since the mid-1950s, a lighthouse powered by solar energy began to operate in the village. At the beginning of the 21st century, the population dropped to 36 people, and currently the village consists of several two-story houses of varying states of preservation, a pier and a lighthouse. The residential building rising above the village is periodically used, although in general silence and solitude have become the norm here.

Retinskaya Bay is famous for its recent history of clearing sunken ships, which began with the recovery of the first object, a ship engine, in 2017. This place attracts nature and history lovers, providing an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of northern nature, breathe sea air and see the panorama of Severomorsk across the bay.

Retinskoe, despite its abandoned status, has a special charm and tranquility, attracting those who are looking for privacy and the unique atmosphere of the northern expanses.
