Description

The Stroganov stable in Volyshovo played a significant role in the history of this estate. In 1923, the year of the death of Count Stroganov, a stud farm was organized on the basis of the equestrian part of the estate, which was named Pskov Stud Farm No. 18. At the beginning of its activity, the plant bred horses of the Oryol breed, but then switched to Russian trotters.

During the Great Patriotic War, horses from stud farm No. 18 were evacuated to the Kirov region. The journey lasted a year and two weeks, and despite difficult conditions, hardships and illnesses, after the occupation 17 horses returned to Volyshevo.

Today the stud farm is going through difficult times. In the past, it was one of the five best stud farms in the USSR and tested horses at the best racetracks in the country. However, in Soviet times the arena was used for its intended purpose, but now it is abandoned.

The factory's specialization in Russian trotters made it unique, and horses of this breed were in demand both for racing and for walking and horse riding. However, today horses are more of a hobby, and the main income of the plant comes from cows.

Pskov Stud Farm No. 18 is located in a historical location, in one of the most beautiful manorial estates, and remains an important element of the cultural and historical heritage of the region.
