Description

The obelisk in honor of the feat of the Three Heroes is located in the park at Yaroslav's Court in Veliky Novgorod. It was installed in November 1957 for the 40th anniversary of the October Revolution. This obelisk became the first monument in the city dedicated to the courage of those who defended and liberated the Novgorod land in the period from 1941 to 1944.

The author of the monument is Lyudmila Ashikhmina. The obelisk has the shape of a truncated pyramid with granite faces. Ribbed metal stars are placed on each face, reminiscent of the shape of the Hero's Gold Star. On the front side of the obelisk, facing the Volkhov River, there is a memorial plaque with the image of the Gold Star medal and text dedicated to the Heroes of the Soviet Union: Sergeant Ivan Savvich Gerasimenko, soldiers Leonty Aseevich Cheremnov and Alexander Semenovich Krasilov, who covered the embrasures of enemy bunkers with their bodies in January 1942.

The obelisk is mounted on a rectangular brick pedestal, and the surrounding area is surrounded by a metal chain-link fence. This monument was accepted for protection as an object of cultural heritage of regional significance in accordance with the resolution of the Administration of the Novgorod Region of January 23, 1997.
