Description

The monument to a tourist in Veliky Novgorod, erected on June 17, 2009, has become one of the favorite places for photography for both locals and tourists. This pretty sculpture, created by contemporary Novgorod sculptor Vadim Borov, depicts a young girl in an ordinary blouse and skirt, who is resting on the parapet of the Kremlin pedestrian bridge with her back to the river.

The girl leaned back, leaning on her hands, and exposed her face to the sun. Her handbag stands nearby on the parapet, and her shoes have been kicked off and lie next to her bare feet. This image is quite realistic and familiar to many who went for walks around the city and wanted to relax a little. In the evening, the sculpture looks especially picturesque, when the city lights create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.

The monument to the tourist has become not only an art object, but also a symbol of the city, attracting the attention of both local residents and guests. Many tourists perform the custom of leaving a coin in one of the girl’s discarded shoes in order, according to legend, to ensure their return to Novgorod.
