Description

The educational and historical reserve "Estate of Prince A.G. Gagarin "Kholomki" is located in the Pskov region, just 15 km from the ancient city of Porkhov. This place, called Kholomki, attracts attention with its historical significance and beauty.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Prince Andrei Grigorievich Gagarin, a descendant of an old noble family and the first rector of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute, began to build the estate. The house was designed by the architect Ivan Aleksandrovich Fomin, who gave the building a neoclassical style characteristic of that time. The house turned out to be cozy and elegant, with elements of classical architecture, such as Ionic columns and a portico on the facade.

After the death of Prince Gagarin in 1920, his widow, Maria Dmitrievna, made the estate a center of cultural life, attracting artists and writers here. At this time, such famous personalities as K.I. lived and worked here. Chukovsky, V.F. Khodasevich, E.I. Zamyatin and others.

In subsequent years, the estate was used as a sanatorium and recreation center, and then it was on the verge of destruction. However, in 2000, the estate was transferred to the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, which began the process of restoring the complex.

Since 2004, work has been underway to restore the main house and associated buildings. After the restoration was completed in 2013, the estate was opened to the public. Today it functions as an educational and historical reserve, hosting guests on thematic excursions, interactive programs and theatrical performances.

Estate of Prince A.G. Gagarin “Kholomki” has become not only a monument of history and culture, but also a center of education and cultural heritage, attracting the attention of both scientists and tourists.
