Description

The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Krasnaya Reka, Ulyanovsk region, is a significant historical site that adorns the surrounding area with its majestic appearance. Centuries-old traditions and events are associated with its appearance.

The first church in Red River was built after 1762 and dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica. The village got its name - Dimitrievskoye Krasnaya Rechka. However, in 1771 the village almost completely burned down and was rebuilt. In 1773, a new wooden church was built, already with the altar of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, which was subsequently rebuilt and consecrated in 1858. In 1912, a stone church was erected on the site of the wooden church.

However, in 1930 the church was closed and destroyed. Its bells were removed and the building was used as a warehouse and distillery. Subsequently, in 2012, a wooden church was built next to the site of the destroyed church, also dedicated to the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The stone temple, located in the center of the village, stands out for its majestic Russian-Byzantine style. It has a “ship” plan, including an apse, a temple, a refectory and a bell tower. The interior of the church is spacious and free, and architectural details such as arched niches and windows create an atmosphere of grandeur and reverence.

The village of Krasnaya Reka, where the church is located, has its own rich history, dating back to the 17th century. With the advent of Russian settlers along with foreigners, the village became prosperous and strong. An important moment in its history was the construction of a stone church, which became an integral part of the life of the Eloquents.

Despite the historical difficulties associated with the closure of the church in 1930, its role in the cultural and religious life of the village remains unchanged. Today it has become an object of cultural heritage and a symbol of faith and history of this corner of the Ulyanovsk region.
