Description
The house of the merchant Chukin in the village of Askuly in the Samara region has an interesting history, although the exact details of the fate of its owner remain unknown due to different versions of history. Perhaps the merchant Chukin disappeared in the Gulag or was dispossessed and forced to leave for Kazakhstan.
It is interesting that the Chukin house was owned by different owners at different times, as evidenced by bricks with initials found in and around the house. The house itself, as an ancient monument, now belongs to the Samarskaya Luka National Park, but, unfortunately, it is not being restored, and some local residents are gradually dismantling it to use the materials for their needs.
According to legend, the house was built by the entire village, and the merchant Chukin set up a brick factory especially for this purpose, paying only for building materials, and the craftsmen worked for free. This indicates how respected the merchant was in his village.
Despite the destruction and gradual loss of this unique building, the house of the merchant Chukin is of great historical and cultural interest and may have potential for the development of tourism within the Samarskaya Luka National Park.
