Description

A monument dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Navy was erected in a park near the Dynamo stadium in the city of Yekaterinburg. This monument is a gray granite block with a cast iron slab. The slab depicts the profile of the navigator Tsar Peter I, and on the sides are the silhouettes of two frigates. The inscription on the slab reads “The Russian Navy is 300 years old.”

The installation of such a marine monument in Yekaterinburg, located far from the sea coast, looks unusual and exotic. However, this is not the only connection between the city and the sea. For example, on Pobeda Street there is a naval museum.

It is interesting that the connection with the maritime theme is also evident in the Novo-Tikhvin Monastery. The relics of Admiral Fedor Fedorovich Ushakov are kept here. According to some records, it was Ushakov who founded this monastery. This fact may be unexpected, given that the exploits and victories of Admiral Fyodor Ushakov at sea are not directly related to the city of Yekaterinburg.
