The monument to Pyotr Vladimirovich Alabin was erected in Samara in the year of his 195th birthday. This monument was created by sculptor Karen Sarkisov and architect Alexey Yankov. The height of the sculpture is about three meters and it was cast in bronze.
Pyotr Vladimirovich Alabin played an important role in the social and political life of Samara. He held various positions, including member of the Samara Duma, city mayor and governor. During the period of his activity, many enterprises and infrastructure facilities, such as factories, printing houses, a meteorological station, a theater and a museum, were built and began to operate in the city. He is also considered the father of the first public museum in Samara.
One of the famous events associated with Pyotr Alabin is his participation in the creation of the Samara Banner during the Russian-Turkish War of 1877–1878.
The remains of Peter Alabin were lost in Samara. Archaeologists found only the ashes of his daughter in the family crypt, located on the territory of the Iversky Monastery. The remaining remains were not found.
