Description

In the historical part of Orenburg, a unique heritage is preserved - the estate of lawyer Yevsey Gorodissky, which has become the object of many urban legends. The brick mansion, known as the "House with Lions", was erected in 1906 on Neplyuevskaya Street, now known as Leninskaya Street, in the historical heart of the city.

The building attracted attention with its unusual architecture: the external façade was decorated with exquisite stucco molding and a turret, while the interior featured stucco moldings and paintings on mythological themes. However, after the revolution, the estate often changed owners, and over the past two decades it fell into disrepair.

Despite its status as a cultural heritage site, the building was in poor condition until August 2020, when information about its restoration appeared.

Legends connect Yevsey Gorodissky with various scandalous stories. For example, he was suspected of participating in the theft of antiques from the house of one of the merchants. There were also rumors about his love affairs, suggesting that he did not leave any woman in the city indifferent.

Legends also claim that Gorodissky's estate was connected with a mysterious underground passage leading to the neighboring street. Although the marble lions that decorated the entrance have disappeared, the underground passage still exists. In 2020, the estate was handed over to restorers, and work is now continuing on its restoration, which is an important step for preserving the historical heritage of the city of Orenburg.
