Description
Baths "Alexandrovskie" is a historical building located in the 376th quarter of Orenburg at the intersection of Vodyana (now M. Gorky Street) and Bezakovskaya (now Burzyantseva Street) streets. This area was formed after the abolition of the Orenburg fortress in 1861.
Construction of the Alexander Baths began in 1864 on the initiative of Governor General Alexander Pavlovich Bezak. At his expense these baths were erected, which were opened for public use on September 15, 1867. The original owner was merchant Chaim Berenstein.
By the end of the 19th century, the “Alexandrovsky” baths had three sections: two for nobles and one for common people. They were distinguished by a high level of comfort and equipment: all bath accessories were copper, pipes were zinc, floors were heated ceramic. A separate water supply with a horse-drawn pump was organized for the bathhouse.
During Soviet times, the baths were transferred to the military department and functioned until 2008. In 2008, they were included in the list of cultural heritage sites of the Orenburg region.
The Alexander Baths are a significant historical site in Orenburg, reflecting the architectural and sociocultural aspects of the city's history. Currently, the baths are abandoned, but are under state protection.
