Description

In the center of Orenburg, on the pedestrian Sovetskaya Street, there is a sculptural composition dedicated to the founder and first governor of the city, Ivan Ivanovich Neplyuev. The sculpture is a column with a bust of I.I. installed on top. Neplyueva. The inscription is engraved on the column: “Founder of Orenburg I.I. Neplyuev 1693-1773.” The installation of this sculptural composition was timed to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Ivanovich, and the opening of the Neplyuev bust took place in 1994.

Ivan Ivanovich Neplyuev was a student and follower of Peter I, and in 1742 he was appointed governor of the Orenburg region. During his reign, Neplyuev founded about 70 fortresses, carried out reforms in the armed forces, developed the metallurgical industry, and also built several schools and churches throughout the Orenburg region. He also managed to suppress the Bashkir uprising in 1755.

In 2013, to celebrate the 270th anniversary of the city of Orenburg, the monument to Neplyuev was reconstructed. A colonnade of 10 columns was installed behind the monument, and bronze plaques with important events and dates in the history of Orenburg, as well as a short biography of Neplyuev, were installed. In addition, a marble path was laid and the granite base of the monument was replaced. The opening of the restored monument took place on August 31, 2013.
