Description

The ancient stone gazebo-rotunda, located in the center of Orenburg city in Lenin Square, on Lenin Street, is a 19th-century architectural monument. It was created during the governorship of Peter Kirillovich Essen (1817-1830) and was originally situated in the Zaural Grove of the city. In the 1890s, it was relocated to Alexander's Square, which was later renamed Lenin Square.

The gazebo-rotunda serves as an example of 19th-century garden and park culture and architecture in Orenburg. One version of its origin links it to the ceremonial events held in honor of Governor Essen's resignation. Initially, a fountain in the form of a sculpture of Cupid was installed in the central part of the rotunda, but in the mid-20th century, the fountain was removed, and a bench was installed in its place.

In 1998, the rotunda underwent restoration in honor of the 255th anniversary of the founding of the city of Orenburg and the 200th anniversary of A.S. Pushkin. During the restoration, a new sculptural composition was installed in place of the fountain, depicting a mother bathing her two children, with a fountain spurting from a jug.
