Description

Mount Sambula, known as one of the natural symbols of the Saraktash district of the Orenburg region, not only impresses with its beautiful views, but also attracts attention with its archaeological value. Here, among many historical layers, the remains of ancient vertebrates were discovered, hiding in the thickness of its rocks.

At first glance, Mount Sambula may seem to be just one of the many hilly areas of the Orenburg region, devoid of greenery. But only closer to it, you can see how on its north-eastern side a steep rock cliff opens up, carved from sandstone and conglomerates of a rich shade of brown.

These rocks, which were laid back in the distant Permian period of the Paleozoic era, have witnessed many historical events. At the foot of the mountain, bones of the ancient inhabitants of this place - Batrachosaurus, Chronosuchus and Kotlassia - were discovered, confirming the age and importance of Sambula.

Particularly impressive is the rocky cliff of the mountain, washed away by the flows of the Sakmara River. With its 50 meters in height, the cliff creates an impressive panorama of the surrounding Orenburg area, leaving an unforgettable impression on those who dare to approach its edge.

But that's not all. The rocky cliff of Sambula amazes with its unique geological structure - vertical cracks stretch along its length, creating the impression of architectural masterpieces. Some scholars even suggest that these cracks may have been used in the past for defensive purposes against the Tsarist troops, leaving a mystery in the history of this place.

To get to Mount Sambula from Orenburg, you need to follow the highway towards the village of Black Spur, and then turn left, following the grader road and following the Sakmara River on the right. After several settlements and signs along the way, you can find a well-worn field road leading to the amazing Mount Sambule.
