Description

Red Mountain, located in the village of Saraktash in the Orenburg region, is a unique place that attracts many tourists all year round. This tourist complex amazes with its atmosphere and architecture.

The mountain rises on the right bank of the Sakmara River, and its name comes from the color of its rocks - red clay and sandstone, which gives it a colorful appearance, especially in sunny, dry weather. However, it is also known as Saryktash, which means “stone sheep” because of the large stones that, according to legend, appeared like sheep from afar.

Scenes of the historical melodrama “Russian Revolt”, based on the works of Alexander Pushkin, were filmed on the mountain, where the majestic Belogorsk fortress was recreated. This 1998 film brought attention to Red Mountain and turned it into a tourist attraction.

Today, on the site of the film sets, the Landscape and Ethnographic Museum of the Orenburg Cossacks has been created, which has turned into a real open-air museum-reserve. It is also worth noting the village of Saraktash, where you can visit the local history museum and get acquainted with the famous Orenburg down scarves. But the most important attraction of the village is the Holy Trinity Convent of Mercy with its majestic church and architectural ensemble, which is a place of pilgrimage and miracles.
