Description

On August 27, 2010, in Orenburg, the monument "The Golden Sarmatian Deer" was unveiled, which has become a symbol of the regional center. This sculpture, an exact copy of the deer figurine found during excavations in the Ilek district of the Orenburg region, was installed on the central street of the city thanks to a gift from the mobile operator MegaFon.

The history of the deer dates back to ancient times when the Orenburg steppes were inhabited by the advanced civilization of the Sarmatian Scythians. During excavations in the Don River area, burials dating back to the Scythian-Sarmatian period were discovered. One of the most unusual finds was the sculptures of 26 deer with branching antlers covered in golden overlays. The deer was a sacred animal for the Scythian-Sarmatians, believed to bring luck, strength, and health, as well as protect the love of those who touched it.

The height of the monument "Sarmatian Deer" is 2.1 meters, and it was created by the Orenburg sculptor Nikolay Oreshkevich taking into account the peculiarities and traditions of Sarmatian culture. The monument was cast at the artistic combine "Plast." This iconic object has become an integral part of the city's architectural landscape, attracting the attention of both residents and tourists, becoming an attractive place for photo shoots and relaxation.
