Description

The floating chapel-buoy of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is a unique object on the Irtysh River, near the mouth of this important water artery. Its installation was initiated by the General Director of the shipping company "Aganrechtrans" S.G. Sandulov.

This unusual temple is an octagonal single-domed pillar chapel mounted on a square pontoon attached to an anchor. Each facet of the chapel is decorated with an icon, and the chapel itself was consecrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill on September 19, 2013.

It is important to note that at the end of the navigation period, the floating chapel is temporarily retracted into the backwater. In the spring, after the passage of the ice drift, it is again installed in its place, and together with other navigational signs helps ships navigate and move safely along the river.

This initiative not only gives the Irtysh River a special cultural and religious meaning, but also serves a practical purpose for navigation, ensuring the safety and convenience of vessel traffic in the region.
