Description
The plant-museum of the history of mining equipment in Nizhny Tagil is a unique place representing the history and development of the Russian metallurgical industry. It is located on the territory of a former ironworks, founded in 1725 by the Demidov dynasty. The plant has gone through many stages of development in its history, starting with metal smelting and ending with the production of ferrochrome and ferromanganese during the Great Patriotic War.
The museum, opened on the basis of a closed plant in 1989, has become an important source of knowledge about the metallurgical industry and technology of past eras. It includes a number of exhibitions demonstrating the various stages of metallurgical production, as well as exhibitions of plant equipment and rolling stock.
Part of the plant's territory, including infrastructure and the surrounding historical area, was transferred to the museum in 1992, which made it possible to create a museum complex with an area of 30 hectares. Historical structures such as blast furnaces, open-hearth shops, a water turbine and overhead crane from 1892, as well as a dam built back in 1721 have been preserved here.
The exhibition of factory equipment displays examples of equipment from the early 20th century, as well as materials associated with the construction of the plant, such as larch logs raised during the reconstruction of the dam in 1992.
The plant-museum of the history of mining equipment in Nizhny Tagil plays an important role in preserving the cultural heritage of the metallurgical industry and is a significant object of tourist and cultural heritage of Russia.
