Description
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Verkhnyaya Pyshma has a rich history, which began with the construction of a wooden chapel at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1908, this chapel was expanded and an altar was added, after which it was consecrated in honor of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The consecration was performed by the dean archpriest Caesar Ponomarev with the assistance of other priests and psalm-readers.
During its history, the church has undergone changes more than once. The chapel was closed in 1936 and the building was demolished in the 1950s. However, in the 1990s, to provide for the spiritual needs of believers in Verkhnyaya Pyshma, a prayer house was opened, which was registered as a parish community.
In 1997, the management of Uralelectromed JSC decided to build a new stone church in the city. Construction began in 1998 and was completed two years later. The interior decoration of the church was carried out with the participation of many specialists, and People's Artist of the USSR Ilya Glazunov and his son Ivan took part in the paintings.
In 2000, Archbishop Vikenty of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye consecrated the temple. Since then, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Verkhnyaya Pyshma has been considered one of the most beautiful churches in the diocese.
