Description
Bust of Orenburg military governor V.A. Perovsky, installed in Perovsky Park in the city of Orenburg, is one of the symbols of the city, as well as a reminder of the important historical role of this outstanding personality.
Vasily Alekseevich Perovsky was an outstanding general, governor-general of the Orenburg and Samara provinces. His initiative and diligence played a key role in early attempts to conquer Central Asia, including the Khiva campaign (1839-1840) and the Kokand campaign (1853). His service in Orenburg was marked by the successful suppression of the Bashkir uprising of 1834-1835, for which he was recognized by Nicholas I himself.
Perovsky also made a significant contribution to the development of the Orenburg region. During his reign, the steppe regions were strengthened, the Aral Sea was explored, a steamship service was established on it, and the Aral Flotilla was founded. His activities in Orenburg and Samara led to many beneficial changes and improvements in the region.
Emperor Alexander II also recognized Perovsky's merits, which is confirmed by his awards and thanks. Perovsky was elevated to the rank of count and awarded the diamond insignia of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called.
The bust of Perovsky, installed in Perovsky Park, is a respectful memory of his significant contribution to the history of Orenburg and Russia as a whole.
