Description

The monument to minor home front workers, installed in Samara in the park at the intersection of Polina Osipenko and Novo-Sadovaya streets, is an expression of the city’s gratitude to the children who made a significant contribution to the overall effort for victory during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

This monument was created on the initiative of the “Children to the Front” society, which emerged in 1992. The authors of the monument are sculptor Ivan Ivanovich Melnikov and architect Yuri Vasilyevich Khramov. Initially, it was planned to create a sculpture of a boy called “Alyosha the Younger,” but after objections from women of the “Children to the Front” society, who expressed the opinion that the monument should not ignore the work of girls in the rear, a figurine of a girl was added to the figure of the boy.

The boy and girl are depicted in 1940s clothing, sitting on a bench and holding hands, symbolizing pure and sincere feelings. The sculptural composition is made of bronze and installed on a granite pedestal and marble base. On the pedestal there are plaques with the name of the monument and verses reminiscent of the importance and severity of children's labor efforts during the war.

The monument was opened on June 12, 1996 and is an important symbol of the gratitude of the city of Samara to minor home front workers for their contribution to the victory during the Great Patriotic War.
