Description
The park sculpture "Cosmopops", depicting an astronaut in an orange spacesuit, stands not far from the Samara Space Museum. This artistic object was created by the modern Samara architect and artist Alexander Filimonov in collaboration with his wife Olga. The sculpture, made of plastic, is installed on Lenin Avenue in the city of Samara, next to a real launch vehicle.
The opening of the sculpture "Cosmopops" took place on April 8, 2011 and was organized in honor of Cosmonautics Day and the 50th anniversary of Yu.A.'s flight. Gagarin. The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials of the city of Samara, including the governor and mayor, as well as the daughter of Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin and Samara cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko.
"Cosmopops" became the target of attacks by hooligans and vandals, as well as even dogs. Several times a year, the sculpture was attacked by four-legged pets, leaving deep marks of teeth and claws on it. As a result of such incidents, restoration of the sculpture had to be carried out.
