Description
The sculpture "Water Skier", installed on the embankment of the Volga River in Samara, perfectly reflects the interest of Soviet youth in water sports, especially sailing. This interest began to clearly manifest itself already in the early 20s, and since 1936, when the All-Union Sailing Section was created, it began to actively develop.
Sailing was gaining popularity in the USSR, and thousands of athletes took it up in various cities, including Leningrad, Gorky and Kuibyshev (present-day Samara). An important step was the creation of racing and cruising yachts, as well as other types of vessels, which contributed to the development of sailing in the country.
The Water Skier sculpture symbolizes this enthusiasm and passion for water sports. The bronze girl standing on skis with flowing hair and outstretched arms represents the grace and beauty of movement on the water. This monument recalls the importance of sport and an active lifestyle, as well as the heritage and achievements of Soviet sailing.
