Description
The "Grieving Mother" monument depicts a woman-mother kneeling and mourning her murdered son. This symbolic image embodies the deep sorrow and pain of maternal loss that many women experienced during military conflicts, including the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars.
Previously, next to the sculpture there was a bowl-pool, the water in which symbolized the mother’s tears. However, over time, the pool's water supply system failed and it was dismantled in the early 2000s.
In the spring of 2008, a bronze sculpture of a grieving mother was raised onto a pedestal cast from concrete and decorated with granite. The sculpture was installed so that the mother's face was facing the central alley of the square.
This composition recalls the tragic losses experienced by many families during wars and is an important symbol of remembrance and mourning for those killed.
