Description
The monument to St. Sergius of Radonezh was opened on June 21, 2019 in the city of Orenburg. It is located in Lebedev and Siraev Square, not far from St. Nicholas Cathedral. This monument is a bronze statue of Elder Sergius and an arch with bas-reliefs depicting events from his life. At the top of the arch there is an icon of the Holy Trinity and an Orthodox cross. The figure of the saint is depicted in a solemn pose, and from his left palm rises a chain of doves, symbolizing his disciples.
The author of this sculptural composition was Irina Makarova. The monument was erected at the intersection of Chkalov and Stepan Razin streets, and Metropolitan Veniamin of Orenburg and Saraktash took part in its consecration. In his address at the opening of the monument, Bishop Veniamin emphasized the importance of St. Sergius for Russia, his role in the history and defense of the Fatherland.
The monument was created with funds and at the request of the general director of the Stroylandia company, Sergei Filippov. The mayor of Orenburg, Dmitry Kulagin, also noted the importance of this memorable place and expressed gratitude to the sponsor for its creation.
