Description

The history of the Orenburg Regional State Philharmonic goes back to 1943, when in the city of Chkalov (now Orenburg) the concert and variety bureau was transformed into the Chkalov State Philharmonic. This decision was made in order to improve concert activities. At that time, the evacuated Leningrad Academic Maly Opera and Ballet Theater named after Mussorgsky was located in Orenburg.

The presence of such a high-level theater in a small town significantly influenced the formation of the artistic taste of its residents. Brigades of artists were organized and sent to the front. When the Philharmonic was formed, a folk choir and an orchestra of folk instruments were initially created, performing music and songs based on the folklore of the Orenburg region. Despite the difficult times for the country, the Philharmonic continued its activities, holding concerts and carrying out educational work.

An interesting fact is that, according to historical data, the place where the current Philharmonic building is located was previously part of an Old Believer cemetery. However, as the city expanded, the site was developed.

In 1956, on the site of the current Philharmonic, the Exhibition of National Economy was organized, and in the 1980s, the Philharmonic received its own building in the city center, where it is located to this day, being one of the main concert venues in Orenburg. The Orenburg Philharmonic includes such groups as the Stone Orchestra, the Stone Ensemble of Ancient and Modern Music, as well as creative groups.
