Description
The ruins of a former factory, destroyed by an explosion about a century ago, are preserved in the forests in the vicinity of Mount Egozy near Kyshtym. This plant was built in 11 months during the First World War and was intended to produce dynamite. The construction of the plant was carried out at the expense and risk of the Kyshtym Mining Plants Society. The plant began operations in October 1916.
However, in the early summer of 1917, an explosion occurred at the plant. According to the official version, the cause of the explosion was the storage of rinsing water with nitroglycerin in the vats, without malicious intent. The resulting explosion was tragic, although there were no major casualties.
After the Civil War, when the whites tried to seize the plant, there was another attempt to blow it up, but the plant was defended. However, soon after this there was another explosion that destroyed the plant. The date of this explosion is ambiguous: according to various sources, it could be 1927, 1932 or 1933.
There is a legend about the royal gold allegedly hidden on the territory of the plant. Remains of the plant, including a massive factory wall, dumps, trenches and other structures, remain to this day. Around the ruins you can see the remains of a hydraulic structure and a spring called Dynamite.
