Description
The kaolin quarry, known as the Ural "Bali", is located in the Chelyabinsk region, near the city of Kyshtym. This unique landscape is striking in its beauty: the azure water washing the white beaches gives it a resemblance to the tropical beaches of Bali in the Malay Archipelago.
The quarry was used to extract white clay containing kaolinite and silicon. Some believe that thanks to silicon, which ionizes water, it has healing properties. According to some sources, the quarry was flooded with water in 2011. However, it is recommended to avoid swimming in this area due to possible contamination of the water from the nearby city dump.
The quarry attracts many tourists during the summer season due to its unique beauty. Photographers offer services for shooting “love stories” or conducting photo sessions demonstrating impressions of visiting this place.
To visit the quarry, you need to get to the city of Kyshtym, then you should move to the village of Kaolinovy, crossing the railway tracks, and turn to the solid waste landfill.
Brief information
The reservoir, formed as a result of the flooding of a quarry where white clay was mined for the production of earthenware, including sinks and toilets, became an object of interest to the company Vikki-Di LLC, which created a promotional website for the Kyshtym kaolin-ceramic plant "Xanta".
Kaolin, known as white clay, is formed when rocks containing the mineral kaolinite are broken down. This material is the main raw material for the production of porcelain, earthenware, ceramics and other products. After the collapse of the USSR, the main reserves of kaolin are located in the Urals, and currently the local enterprise CJSC Xantha is engaged in its enrichment and use.
Clay contains crystals of silicates, including silicon. Some believe that silicon, by ionizing water, gives it healing properties, but it should be noted that this opinion is erroneous. Swimming in this reservoir is strictly prohibited due to the presence of harmful and dangerous substances, as well as the flow of wastewater from the surrounding landfill.
