Description
The Taiginsky quarry in the Chelyabinsk region is the largest in the region and produces graphite, which is in demand in various industries for its unique properties. Graphite, consisting of pure carbon, has high refractoriness, fire resistance and ductility, which makes it a necessary material in metallurgy, mechanical engineering, electronics, as well as in the oil and gas industries.
The history of the opening of the quarry dates back to the period from 1938 to 1941, when the Ural Geological Department began searching for flake graphite in the Urals. Under the leadership of Z.I. Kravtsova carried out exploration and calculation of reserves, which led to the discovery of the Taiginsky graphite deposit near Lake Taiga in 1939.
During the Great Patriotic War, construction of a mine and factory began under difficult wartime conditions. The equipment for the Taiginskaya factory was evacuated from the Zavalyevskaya graphite factory, which made it possible to extract the first ton of graphite already in 1942. In 1943, on the basis of the discovered Taiginskoye deposit, the largest Taiginskoye graphite plant in the Soviet Union was built, producing various types of graphite.
Currently, graphite mining is carried out by Taiginsky Quarry LLC, which produces about 12 thousand tons of graphite per year. The resources of the Taiginsky quarry are estimated for 40 years in advance, which confirms its importance as a key source of graphite not only for Russia, but also for export.
