Description

Anapa lighthouse is a significant landmark of the city. Its history dates back to 1898, when the first temporary structure was laid - a wooden booth on trestles. This lighthouse served its function for almost 11 years until a quadrangular wooden tower was built in 1909 with the ability to illuminate up to 13 nautical miles.

During the Great Patriotic War, Anapa was captured by the Nazis, who, while retreating, destroyed the lighthouse. However, during fierce fighting, Soviet troops forced the Nazis to retreat into the area of the mined lighthouse, which as a result exploded and the wooden structure burned down.

In 1955, restoration of the lighthouse began and a brick lighthouse with alternating black and white stripes was built in its place. The lighthouse is now a complex with automatic sound and light systems, and its 43 meter high tower rises above sea level, providing a light propagation range of 19 miles or 30 km.

Today, the Anapa lighthouse attracts the attention of both tourists and local residents. It has become an integral part of the city's embankment, giving it a unique look. The best time for a walk to the lighthouse is in the warm season, when you can go down to the beach or visit a cafe overlooking the sea. In the evening, the lighthouse illuminates the dark expanses of the sea, and at dawn, the red light of the lighthouse automatically turns off.

Photographs of the lighthouse, especially when combined with waves and mountains, become real works of art. People also come to the steep slope with the tower to enjoy the view and spend time in the silence and beauty of the place.
