Description

Karlaman Cave, located at the foot of the gypsum rock Ulu-Tau ("Great Mountain" in Bashkir), is a unique natural formation in the Karmaskalinsky region of the Republic of Bashkortostan. It was formed at the site of tectonic faults in the earth's crust, which gives it a special atmosphere and interesting structure.

The description of the cave includes a small entrance hole that can be overcome on all fours. The cave corridor then turns into a wide tunnel, where vertical walls predominate and the width of the corridor ranges from 2 to 12 meters. The ceiling height reaches 5-10 meters. The total length of the cave is 198 meters, but previously it was even longer, up to 269 meters, until a collapse occurred that blocked further passage. The cave is mostly dry, but in some places there is wet and slippery clay. It is easily accessible to tourists, but, unfortunately, due to its popularity, it suffers from garbage, and on the rocks at the entrance you can stumble upon modern paintings. The cave is associated with the legend of hide and seek by Emelyan Pugachev and Salavat Yulaev according to Bashkir legends.

To get to the Karlaman Cave, you can take a car, heading to the regional center of Karmaskala, and then follow the dirt road to the cave. From Ufa to the cave it is approximately 70 km.
