Description

Psakho Canyon is a narrow, deep canyon over 10 kilometers long, located between Krasnaya Polyana and Adler. The canyon has several waterfalls and pools with crystal clear water, making it a great place for outdoor enthusiasts and tourists. The canyon is divided into two parts: Wet and Dry Canyons. The Wet Canyon is filled with water, and the Dry Canyon is an old riverbed.

Organizing a hike

To hike to Psakho Canyon, you should choose the right time of year. The best seasons to visit are spring and autumn, when the weather is favorable and the river does not overflow its banks. If you plan to go canyoning, you need to take the appropriate equipment with you.

Cost of visiting and how to get there

A visit to Psakho Canyon is paid - the entrance fee is 200 rubles. However, in winter, the ticket office is often closed, and entry can be free. You can get to the start by car with a high suspension or order a jeep service. The walk from the bus stop to the start is about 7 km.

When is the best time to visit the canyon

You can visit the Psakho Canyon all year round, but the best time to do so is in spring or autumn. In summer, the canyon is cool due to the dense vegetation, and in winter it can be too cold for swimming.

How to get to the Psakho Canyon

From Adler, you can get to the canyon by bus #131 to the stop "Batayskaya Street, 20", from where it is about a 30-minute walk to the Psakho River. By car, follow the direction of Krasnaya Polyana, turn after the sign to Akhshtyrskaya Cave and drive about 10 km along the mountain road through Kazachiy Brod. 2 km before Lesnoye, after the sign "Psakho Canyon", turn left and ford the river.

What to see in Psakho Canyon

Wet Canyon:

  • Blue water of the Psakho River.
  • Karst troughs and waterfalls.
  • Boxwood grove and sandstone grottoes.

Dry Canyon:

  • Narrow passage between high gray cliffs.
  • Canyon bottom — rocky path.
  • Picturesque tectonic faults and relict greenery.

History

Psakho Canyon was formed 70 million years ago due to a powerful earthquake. The cliff walls were once the bottom of the Tethys Ocean. Psakho is a tributary of the Kudepsta River, which is only 11 kilometers long. Tectonic processes tilted the rock at an angle of 45 degrees, creating a crack through which the river flows.

Comfortable shoes and caution when swimming in a mountain river are recommended for visiting the canyon.
