Description

Agurskiye Waterfalls are one of the natural attractions of Sochi, popular among tourists. They are located in the Khostinsky district of the city, 13 kilometers from the center of Sochi, on the way to the top of Mount Akhun. It is easy to find the waterfalls thanks to the signs at the beginning of the mountain serpentine leading to the top.

Path to the waterfalls

Before starting the path, it is recommended to put on comfortable shoes, as you will have to walk about 3 kilometers along a picturesque path along the crystal clear Agura River. This river, according to legend, appeared from a girl courting Prometheus, whom Zeus chained to a rock. Every day, an eagle pecked out his liver, which grew back overnight, causing the hero unbearable suffering. One day, a girl helped Prometheus by bringing him food and water, for which Zeus turned her into a river.

Agurskiye Waterfalls

The first waterfall is the smallest, only 5 meters high. It is surrounded by a stone pool known as the Devil's font. There is little water in the font, so tourists can walk along its bottom. There is a small grotto nearby.

The second waterfall is the most picturesque and popular among tourists. It consists of two cascades and reaches 30 meters in height. At its foot there is an emerald lake.

The third waterfall is the largest on the route. Its height is also about 30 meters, but it is wider than the others. This waterfall can be observed from an equal level, which adds special charm to it.

Route to the Eagle Rocks

Continuing up the trail, in 40 minutes you will find yourself at the Eagle Rocks, from where a magnificent view of the mountains opens up.

When is the best time to go

The best time to visit the waterfalls is spring or early summer, when the Agura River is full. In the fall, the waterfalls are also spectacular due to heavy rains. In summer, it is better to come in the morning, when the sun is not yet at its zenith.

How to get there

There are several ways to get to the waterfalls:

  • By bus: routes #2 and #115 to the stop "Sputnik".
  • By train: to the station "Matsesta", from where you will have to walk.
  • By car: go in the direction of Mount Akhun, then turn onto the E97 highway. You can navigate by the hotel "Sputnik" or go to the street "Agurskoye Ushchelye", where there is a large parking lot.

Useful tips

  • Additional costs: keep in mind that a cash fee may be charged for entering the park or the gorge.
  • Physical fitness: the route requires good physical fitness, especially if you plan to climb the Eagle Rocks.
  • Equipment: be sure to take comfortable shoes, as the paths can be slippery and covered with gravel.
  • Meals: There are no cafes on the route, so it is better to take snacks and drinks with you.
  • Swimwear: If you plan to swim, take a swimsuit with you.

A walk to the Agursky waterfalls is one of the best one-day hikes in Sochi, offering picturesque views and the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the region.
