Research and access

Akhunskaya Cave was first explored in 1959-1962. The entrance to the cave is equipped with a wooden homemade ladder, the floor of the cave is filled with clay, which makes it difficult to pass without boots.

The cave is located near the trail leading to Mount Akhun from the Agur Gorge. This is one of the striking natural phenomena on Mount Akhun. Access to the cave is possible in various ways, including the route from the MMC Sputnik stop on the Sochi-Adler highway, which can be reached by bus #125. On the way to the Akhun cave, you can see the Agur waterfalls and the Chertova Nora cave.

Route to the cave

From the stop, you need to move along the Agura River valley upstream to the Kavkazsky Aul restaurant, which is about one and a half kilometers away. Behind the restaurant is the Sochi National Park post, where you will need to buy a ticket to visit. Then the trail will lead to the first Agur waterfall and the Chertova Nora cave.

Internal features

There are few beautiful dripstone formations inside the cave, but they are still present. The entrance is large, a little over three meters, and is immediately noticeable. It is always very dirty inside, so anyone wishing to visit the cave should be prepared for a lot of clay. It is recommended to visit the cave in a group of at least two people, with two independent light sources for each person. You should choose clothes that you do not mind getting dirty and torn. It is also recommended to use gloves and a helmet.
