Mount Sirkh, belonging to the Tashlysyrt (Black Mountain) ridge, is located on the western side of the Elbrus region. This place is not only natural, but also a historical and cultural treasure. Mount Sirkh is located on the border of a 12-kilometer caldera, divided by the Malka River into the western Tashlysyrt ridge and the eastern Shaukamnysyrt ridge. The peak of Sirkh reaches an altitude of 3,098 meters above sea level and was once the highest point in the Caucasus.
Historical significance and origin of the name
The name of Mount Sirkh is shrouded in mystery. One version is its origin from the Ossetian word “surkh”, which means “red”. Another version connects the name with a legendary king named Surkh. However, there is no documentary evidence to support these theories.
