Description
The Carmen Massif is a hilly area whose shape resembles a sleeping monster. It is located in the southern part of the Burtinskaya Steppe site and has various types of vegetation, including rocky, shrubby, meadow and steppe areas.
Mount Carmen is part of a cuesta-shaped ridge with a sloping slope in the southwest and a steep steep slope in the southeast. Its area is 137.6 hectares, and the highest point is at an altitude of 381.9 meters. The slopes of the massif have soils with a high humus content, especially on the southeastern slope, where a section with layers of red-colored boulder conglomerates was discovered.
Local legend connects the name of the massif with a wealthy landowner named Carmen. According to legend, he ordered his servants to hide the springs so that invaders could not take advantage of these natural resources. After the death of Carmen, foreign conquerors could not find the springs and lost access to water sources. Since then, the hills began to be called after him.
This legend attracts many people who are still trying to find the hidden springs, but they remain hidden from searches until today.
